Patrick Roy Biography

Patrick Roy is a former NHL goalie and current coach/Vice President of the Colorado Avalanche. Roy started his professional career with the Sherbrooke Canadians of the American Hockey League, and was selected in the third round of the 1984 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadians. He would make his professional debut in 1985, replacing the starting goalie in the third period. In 1986, Roy would become a regular in the goal for Montreal, starting 47 games in the regular season and winning the starting job for the playoffs, where the Canadians would go on to win the Stanley Cup. Roy would go on to win the Stanley Cup again with the Canadian in 1993, but was traded to the Colorado Avalanche during the 1995 season. Roy would help the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup that same season, and stayed with the team until his retirement in 2003. Over his long career, Roy won many awards for his goalkeeping, and is considered one of the best goalies in NHL history. He now serves as head coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Colorado Avalanche.
