Mikko Koivu is a professional ice hockey player in the National Hockey League for the Minnesota Wild. He began his professional career in 2000 when he began to play competitively overseas. After being selected in the NHL Entry Draft Mikko made the move to North America to begin playing with Minnesota's AHL affiliate as that NHL season had been canceled. Once he made it onto the ice in an NHL game he made an immediate impact by scoring 21 points in his rookie season, and followed that up by scoring 20 goals, having 34 assists, and scoring 54 points the following year. Some of his other accomplishments include being selected as an NHL All-Star, as well as his success in international competition including 2 bronze medals, a silver, and a gold medal in the World Championships as well as a bronze and silver medal in the 2006 and 2010 Olympic Games.
