Mike Bossy Biography

Mike Bossy played eleven seasons in the NHL with the New York Islanders and helped them to four consecutive Stanley Cup championships in the early 1980's. In 1982 and 1983 he became the first and only player in NHL history to score consecutive Stanley Cup winning goals. Bossy was the 15th overall pick in the 1977 NHL Draft and scored 53 goals in his first season in route to earning the Calder Trophy as the rookie of the year. Four years later he became one of only five players in NHL history to score 50 goals in 50 games and went on to become the NHL alltime leader in average goals scored per regular season game. In 1987 he retired with 573 goals and 553 assists for a total of 1,126 points in 752 career games. Bossy holds the NHL record for the most 50 goal seasons with nine and most 60-goal seasons with five. In 1991 he took his rightful place in the Hockey Hall of Fame alongside the best players to ever play the game. In 1992 the Islanders honored his career by retiring his legendary No. 22 jersey. ;
