Mike Babcock Biography

Mike Babcock is an Ontario, Canada native and played his collegiate hockey at McGill University, where he served as his team's captain. After earning his undergraduate and graduate degrees in sports psychology from McGill he began a successful coaching career in the United Kingdom as a player-coach with the Whitley Warriors. In 1991 he returned to the United States as the head coach of the Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL and went on to coach for the Spokane Chiefs in the WHL before joining the Cincinnati Might Ducks in the AHL. In 2002 he was hired as the head coach of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and has since led the Detroit Red Wings to unprecedented success since 2005, leading his team to a Stanley Cup Championship in 2007-08 and playoff appearances in nine consecutive seasons. During his time with the Redwings he has compiled a 415-198 record and led them to five Central division championships. ;
