Jayna Hefford is a women's ice hockey player who has certainly made quite a name for herself throughout her playing career. A Canadian native, Hefford was born in 1977 in Trenton, Ontario and has been playing for the national team since 1996. Hefford played for the Toronto Lady Blues women's ice hockey program at the University of Toronto prior to her addition as a member of Canada's national team. As a twelve-time gold medalist, she has been a vital contribution to the national team and has also played for the Brampton Thunder in the Canadian Women's Hockey League. Hefford has been excelling at the sport her entire life and was even named captain of Team Ontario for the 1995 Canada Winter Games. She is also a recipient of six silver medals, while her most recent one was earned at the IIHF World Women's Championships in Canada in 2013. Hefford is also a national spokesperson for the Canadian Hockey Association's Initiation Programme and an advocate for cancer research. In fact, Hefford held a golf charity tournament in 2009 that raised over $15,000 for the cancer and palliative care undertaken at a nearby hospital.
