Henry Boucha Biography

Henry Boucha is a retired NHL center who spent six seasons in the league. Boucha began his hockey career in high school, and is considered one of the top high school hockey players to ever play in Minnesota. After high school, Boucha entered the U.S. Army, where he also competed full time for the United States national ice hockey team, helping the team win the silver medal at the 1972 Winter Olympics. Boucha was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1971 NHL Draft, and immediately made an impact, winning the Redwings' Rookie of the Year award. He would go on to have a successful career with the Red Wings before being traded in 1974 to his hometown Minnesota North Stars. Boucha would only play one season in Minnesota before Dave Frobes of the Boston Bruins would hit Boucha in the eye with his stick, ending Boucha's season and ultimately his career. Boucha would attempt to make a comeback in 1986, but only played nine games before retiring permanently. Due to his time in the NHL and international play, Boucha was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1995, cementing his legacy as one of the best American hockey players.
