Guy Lapointe Biography

Guy Lapointe is a retired NHL defenseman who played for three teams over his 16 year career. Lapointe made his NHL career in 1968 as a member of the Montreal Canadians. Lapointe reached his full potential in 1970, scoring 44 points in 78 games played, being a part of the "Big 3" that played a key role in the Canadians' Stanley Cup Championships in 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979. His defense was impeccable, as he became a true force against opposing offenses. After 14 seasons with the Canadians in which he scored over 600 points, Lapointe was traded to the St. Louis Blues in 1982 where he would only play one full season. In his only full season with the Blues, Lapointe scored 26 points in 64 games, but left the team to sign with the Boston Bruins the following season. One season later, Lapointe would retire, finishing his career playing 884 games, recording 171 goals and 451 assists. Lapointe was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993, and currently serves as a scouting coordinator with the Minnesota Wild. ;
