Ed Belfour Biography

Despite going undrafted in the NHL Draft, Ed Belfour is considered one of the elite goaltenders in hockey history. After a junior and college career that saw him win an NCAA Championship, Belfour was signed as a free agent by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1989. Right away, Belfour took the role in the cage for the Blackhawks and set an NHL record for 43 wins in 74 games as a rookie and led the league in save percentage (.910) for the season as well. Belfour won the Vezina Trophy that season for goalkeeper of the year, an award he would go on to win again in 1993. After being traded from the Blackhawks in 1997, Belfour went on to play 10 more seasons in the NHL including a Stanley Cup Championship season in 1998 with the Dallas Stars.Belfour finished his 19 year NHL career with 484 wins and is one of only two hockey players in history to win an NCAA Championship, an Olympic Gold Medal (2002), and a Stanley Cup. ;
