Curtis Joseph Biography

Curtis Joseph is known for his time as a professional ice hockey player. As a Canadian goaltender, Joseph is the record-holder for having the most career wins without ever playing on a Stanley Cup winning team. However, he is also the first goaltender in NHL history to obtain 30 or more wins in a regular season for five different teams. He was born to two unmarried teenage parents in Canada in 1967 and was ultimately put up for adoption. Having a great support system with his adoptive family, he took up the sport of hockey and legally changed his name. Joseph had a short playing career for the University of Wisconsin and although undrafted, was ultimately signed to the St. Louis Blues after his freshman year to a free-agent entry-level contract. He continued to play for a decade for a handful of teams, in the NHL, IHL and AHL. Joseph most recently played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and obtained his impressive 450th career win with them in 2008. In 2010, he retired from the sport but could not get away from it. Joseph went on to give back to the sport he took so much from to improve himself as a player and a person by becoming a goaltending coach for the Newmarket Hurricanes of the OJHL. ;
