Brent Sutter is a former NHL centre and head coach who last served as the head coach of the Calgary ;Flames in 2012. Prior to ;becoming a coach, Sutter was a centre in the NHL, playing 18 seasons with the ;New York Islanders and the Chicago Blackhawks. ;Sutter played 1111 regular season games over his ;career, finishing with 829 points as well as 74 points in 144 playoff ;appearances. Following his ;retirement in 1998, Sutter pursued a career in coaching, leading the Canadian Junior ice hockey ;team to ;consecutive gold medals at the 2005 and 2006 World Championships. His first professional head ;coaching job came ;with the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL, coaching the team for seven seasons before ;leaving to get his first NHL coaching job ;with the New Jersey Devils. Sutter led the Devils to their best ;record in franchise history in 2009, but he stepped down after the ;season citing family reasons. Two ;weeks later, Sutter was announced as the head coach of the Calgary Flames, but his contract ;was not ;renewed after three straight seasons of missing the playoffs. ;
