​The Buffalo Sabres were founded in 1970 as part of the NHL’s expansion and are based in Buffalo. Known for their passionate fanbase and deep hockey roots, the Sabres quickly found success in the 1970s behind the high-powered “French Connection” line led by Gilbert Perreault. The franchise reached the Stanley Cup Final twice (1975 and 1999), with the latter run highlighted by the legendary goaltending of Dominik Hasek, one of the greatest netminders in NHL history and Hall of Famer Alexander Mogilny. Although the Sabres have yet to capture a Stanley Cup, they have remained a central part of the league’s identity, playing their home games at KeyBank Center.
