Jason Botterill was named the general manager of the Buffalo Sabres in 2017. He built a great reputation working in the Pittsburgh Penguins front office for a decade. Botterill was first hired by the Penguins as the director of hockey administration. He was promoted to assistant general manager in 2009. Botterill had a tenure as interim general manager in 2014, but was named associate general manager after being considered for the full-time position. Botterill began his front office career working for NHL Offices and NHL Central Registry. He also spent a year as a scout for the Dallas Stars. Botterill was an NHL player for eight seasons. The Stars originally selected him in the first round of the 1994 ;NHL Entry Draft. He played hockey for four seasons at the University of Michigan and received his MBA from the school after his pro career. ;
