Claude Julien Biography

Before beginning his professional coaching career, Claude Julien was a professional hockey player from 1980-1992. Julien bounced around to different leagues throughout his playing days, competing in the NHL and AHL for a few seasons as a starting defenceman. After retiring but not wanting to step away from the sport, Julien began his coaching career in Canada and led Team Canada to a bronze medal in the National Junior Ice Hockey Championships. Julien first became a head coach in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens in 2003 when he led the team to the second round of the playoffs. In 2006 he signed on as head coach for the New Jersey Devils and after a short stint was released and subsequently signed by the Boston Bruins. Julien quickly turned around the Bruins franchise, earning NHL’s best coach award in 2008. Julien has tallied up 395 wins as a professional coach and led the Bruins to two Stanley Cup finals in three years, winning one of those in the 2010-2011 season. ;
