Chris Chelios Biography

Before Chris Chelios made it into the NHL, he had doubts if he could even play hockey professionally and now he is tied for the NHL record of most seasons played with 26. Chelios began his NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens and went on to play for just 3 other teams in his 26 seasons (Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Redwings, Atlanta Thrashers). Chelios went on to break several NHL records, including most games played by a defenseman as well as the most playoffs played in with 24. Chelios was an 11x All-Star selection with 5 First-Team selections and was a member of 3 Stanley Cup Champion teams. He also competed internationally for Team USA from 1982-2006 where he competed in 4 Olympic Games, 3 of which he was captain for. Chelios serves as the Executive Advisor to Red Wings’ General Manager Ken Holland and in 2013 was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
